From Family Dreams to Ancora Living: The Story Behind Our Land

Every place has a story. This is ours.

Long before Ancora Living became a dream, this piece of land in Camuy, Puerto Rico represented something much more personal.

It represented family.

It All Started With Exciting News

In 2010, we received one of the happiest pieces of news of our lives—we were expecting our daughter.

Like many young parents, we were excited, hopeful, and thinking about the future. Both of us were growing in our careers, and while we loved our work, we knew that raising a child would take more than just planning. We wanted to be close to our family so our daughter could grow up surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who could be part of her everyday life.

That dream inspired us to purchase a piece of land in Camuy with the intention of building what we thought would become our forever home.

At the time, we had no idea that this land would one day become something entirely different.

Life Has a Way of Changing Our Plans

As the years passed, our careers opened doors that led us away from Puerto Rico. We relocated, embraced new opportunities, and built a wonderful life in a different place.

Although our home was no longer going to be built on that land, we never lost our connection to it.

Instead, it became a place where our family gathered whenever we visited Puerto Rico. We built a small structure where we celebrated birthdays, shared meals, laughed together, and created memories that we still treasure today.

The land quietly waited while our lives continued to evolve.

Looking back, it was teaching us an important lesson:

Sometimes our dreams don't disappear—they simply change shape.

A New Purpose

Years later, as we began thinking about investing in short-term rentals in Puerto Rico, one location kept returning to our minds.

The family land.

Instead of selling it or letting it sit unused, we realized it could become something that continued bringing people together—just in a different way.

Rather than building a single family home, we decided to build Ancora Living, a thoughtfully designed duplex that would welcome travelers looking to experience the beauty, culture, and hospitality of Puerto Rico.

In many ways, the purpose of the land hasn't changed at all.

It is still about creating a place where people can gather, rest, reconnect, and make lasting memories.

The only difference is that now we get to share it with guests from around the world.

Why Camuy?

Camuy is one of Puerto Rico's hidden treasures.

Located on the island's beautiful northern coast, it offers visitors easy access to spectacular beaches, caves, local restaurants, and authentic Puerto Rican culture—all while avoiding the crowds found in more tourist-heavy destinations.

It's the Puerto Rico we grew up loving.

And it's the Puerto Rico we're excited to share with every guest who stays with us.

It's about honoring our family's history, preserving a place that has been meaningful to us for more than fifteen years, and creating new memories—not only for our family, but for every guest who visits.

It's built on years of dreams, family gatherings, birthday celebrations, and the hope that every visitor will leave with memories of their own.
